A Short Guide to Architectural Terms

Like all ancient disciplines–sailing, literature, prostitution–architecture has developed a complex and often mystifying terminology. Architect Jody Brown of the brilliant blog Coffee with an Architect offers a twopart primer on terms the architect in your life may be muttering while using hand gestures.

A couple of sample definitions:

  • Balance: (noun) – The thin line between incorrect and profitable.
  • Symmetry: (noun) – the place where the bodies of dead Architects are interred.
