My first week at my new job has been a whirlwind: Early morning calls with Europe, late night calls with Asia, and instant messaging to colleagues sitting a few feet away from me. Working with dispersed teams, as they’re known, one gets to know a lot about weather in other places, but not much about news happening there. The one story I’ve had time to track this week is the detention (for obscure reasons, it’s not supposed to be called an “arrest”) of the artist and activist Ai Weiwei by Chinese authorities.
Below is a sample of the news and commentary about the crackdown on Weiwei and other people the Communist Party of China finds objectionable.
